ABOUT

“John, what do you think?” or, “John, why don’t you be our presenter?”

I’ve heard words like these more times than I can remember…

For me, it’s simple: What could be more natural than learning about a subject… and using that knowledge to teach and persuade others through words?

It’s no surprise, then, that written and spoken communication have been my stock-in-trade for over 20

years. My background includes years of professional experience as a classroom teacher and curriculum creator, public speaking, and a deep immersion into investing and finance from the perspective of a commercial real estate appraiser.

Finally, in 2013 I launched my freelance writing business, focusing on content creation and high-impact direct response copywriting.

I’ve worked with companies in the real estate, online education, success coaching, and paleo fitness industries (among others) to help them increase profits and continue to serve as the backbone of our economy. Not to mention, swap the occasional “war story,” share some good laughs, and enjoy more than a few memorable conversations along the way. I’ve learned a heck of a lot through all of this, I have to say.

So, what am I up to when not focused on helping clients implement effective marketing strategies?

Well, I’m a happily married family man who lives in Northeast Florida, enjoys fine beer, and goes for longish hikes in the woods whenever possible. My wife and I are proud and fully committed homeschoolers. I’m a dedicated church member who serves as a pastor and teacher.

Finally, I’d say that my “drugs of choice” are classical music and literature. Among other beautiful works that delight my soul and keep me sane, Bach’s cello suites, Beethoven’s string quartets, and Sibelius’ symphonies often fill up my playlists. And these days, Dostoevsky, Melville, and Cooper’s Leatherstocking Tales especially warm my soul.

“Musicians talk of nothing but money and jobs. Give me businessmen every time. They really are interested in music and art…”
– Jean Sibelius

“The trouble with many copywriters in general agencies is that they don really think in terms of selling. They have never written direct-response; they have never tasted blood...
David Ogilvy

"Rhetoric may be defined as the faculty of observing in any given case the available means of persuasion. This is not a function of any other art."
Aristotle
